Checking the Functionality of the HydroFlex and Mini-HydroFlex
Ideally, you should check the hydrogen electrode against a so-called master electrode, e.g. a calomel electrode, before your actual measurements.
Checking the Functionality with a Calomel Electrode
The master electrode should always be placed in a suitable potassium chloride solution and not used for any other purpose.
Pay attention to the fill level in the calomel electrode itself which always has to be above the liquid level in the measuring vessel.
Open the filler plug of your calomel electrode to prevent measuring fluid from entering the calomel electrode.
To check the hydrogen electrode HydroFlex, we recommend placing the HydroFlex and calomel electrode in a pH 2 buffer.
Connect the calomel electrode to the positive pole and the hydrogen electrode HydroFlex to the negative pole (Com port) of your voltmeter. After an adjustment phase, you can then read off the potential.
Note that diffusion voltages develop at the calomel electrode. The measured values may be approximately 5 mV higher than the ideal values in the table.

Checking the Functionality with a Silver Silver Chloride Electrode
Of you you can use also a silver silver chloride electrode for checking HydroFlex. This one should always be placed in a suitable potassium chloride solution and not used for any other purpose either.
Pay attention to the fill level in the silver silver chloride electrode itself which always has to be above the liquid level in the measuring vessel.
Open the filler plug of your silver silver chloride electrode to prevent measuring fluid from entering the silver silver chloride electrode.
To check the hydrogen electrode HydroFlex, we recommend placing the HydroFlex and silver silver chloride electrode in a pH 2 buffer.
Connect the silver silver chloride electrode to the positive pole and the hydrogen electrode HydroFlex to the negative pole (Com port) of your voltmeter. After an adjustment phase, you can then read off the potential.
